Teaching and Learning

At Brinsworth Manor Junior School, we believe that understanding ‘how’ children learn is essential in a child’s success academically but also socially and emotionally.  As a school, we have therefore adopted a new lesson cycle that best supports the learning process; one that links already ‘stored’ knowledge to new learning through ‘connect’ activities that allow children to use what they already know to help them learn new things or develop a deeper understanding of existing concepts.  We believe that in order to do this, children should be shown clearly what steps to take and supported to do this through scaffolds in the ‘model’ part of the lesson.  Practicing what they have been shown is an essential part of the learning process and therefore children at Brinsworth Manor Junior school are given opportunities to ‘practice’ during the lesson.  The final stage of our lesson cycle is where children are encouraged to ‘demonstrate’ what they have learnt in activities that require our children to apply their new learning.
